Welcome to the Rockin' Chair Ranch located in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia owned and operated by Paul & Paulette Samples who retired from the fast pace of New York to the gentler pace of country life. Soon after they discovered the Rocky Mountain horses and new challenges! Paul has a serious back problem and was very happy to learn that here was a horse he could actually ride with their smooth lateral four beat gait. They also discovered that this wonderful breed was on the endangered species list. With guidance from very knowledgable Rocky owners, they embarked on a course of action to join others that were mainly interested in preserving the breed. A few mares were hand picked for the best breeding qualities. They looked for the old time Rocky bloodlines to guarantee the best comformation, gait and temperament in their foals. The most exciting event was the addition of an incredible stallion,  Toby's Casanova whose sire is Johnson's Toby, his Dam is High Water's Klemontine which make TC 56% Tobe! He has an astounding presence, conformation and gait and the very sweetest personality that he passes on to his get!

Kilburn's Chocolate Sundown, Buddy Roe, Johnson's Toby, Sam Clemons Tim and of course Tobe...all figure very prominently in our horses!

Our foals are imprinted at birth and handled on a daily basis and they are on regular worming and vaccination schedules. Our daughter and grandchildren have joined our little ranch so our horses have lots of extra help in the lovin' and shovelin' department!
